四「一切法本自空」下明前菩薩修空見空，於中有二：一以法顯心，由法性空故令菩薩修空見空；二「如鹽」下以心顯法，由習空想故令諸法不空作空。前據真諦，故說性空，令菩薩見；後就世諦，故說菩薩修空三昧不空使空。

4. "All dharmas are fundamentally inherently empty..." and below clarifies the aforementioned bodhisattva cultivating emptiness and seeing emptiness. Therein are two parts: first, revealing the mind through dharmas—because the nature of dharmas is empty, the bodhisattva is caused to cultivate emptiness and see emptiness; second, "just as salt..." and below reveals dharmas through the mind—because of practicing the perception of emptiness, dharmas that are not empty are made to be empty. The former is based on the ultimate truth, and so speaks of nature-emptiness causing the bodhisattva to see it; the latter is in terms of conventional truth, and so speaks of the bodhisattva cultivating the samādhi of emptiness to make what is not empty empty.
