From here below is the second part, which refutes the initial attachment and clarifies that there is no fixed nature abiding within sentient beings. Within this, it first clarifies the essential characteristics of the nature, and from "If sentient beings understand the buddha-nature" downward encourages cultivation to enter it. Within the former part there are four: first, refuting that the buddha-nature abides within sentient beings; second, from "Just as the four great elements" downward, refuting that there is definitely a buddha-nature within sentient beings; third, from "Just as the king told" downward, in response to the first above, broadly clarifying that the buddha-nature is neither identical nor separate; fourth, from "The Tathāgata constantly abides, which is named the self" downward, in response to the second above, broadly clarifying that sentient beings are neither existent nor non-existent.
