Below, in praising the sūtra, the text has three distinct parts: 1. praising the inconceivability of the person, which is used to draw an analogy with the sūtra; 2. from "The Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra is also like this" below, explaining that the sūtra is identical with the person; 3. from "like the great ocean" below, praising the Dharma itself directly. Within praising the person, there are three distinct stages: 1. with respect to the ten faiths, praising their inconceivability in generating faith based on the sūtra; 2. from "Lion said: How is a non-retrogressing bodhisattva..." below, with respect to the lineage-nature, praising their inconceivability in undertaking practice based on the sūtra; 3. from "the bodhisattva clearly knows and sees non-..." below, with respect to the first ground, praising their inconceivability in accomplishing virtue based on the sūtra. In the first part there are three: 1. directly praising the inconceivability of generating faith based on the sūtra; 2. from "Lion said" below, citing the many who do not believe to confirm the inconceivability of faith; 3. from "good man" below, explaining that the sūtra has many benefits, and those who presently get to hear it will surely be able to believe. In the first part there are five phrases: the first four explain the inconceivability of what is believed, and the last demonstrates the inconceivability of the capacity to believe; these illuminate each other. Among the first four: the first explains the inconceivability of the buddha-nature; the second explains the inconceivability of the Three Jewels; the third, with respect to the first [point] above, explains the inconceivability of sentient beings possessing the nature; the fourth, with respect to the second [point] above, explains the inconceivability of the essence and virtue of the Buddha Jewel. Because the Dharma believed in this sūtra is used to reveal faith, the capacity to believe can be known.
