From "if it is said" onwards is the third phrase, using the internal to analogize the external to refute the other's defense. The other party defends by saying: "The internal four great elements increase from the external four great elements," therefore the internal has a nature; "one does not see the external four great elements increase from the internal," therefore the external lacks a nature. Therefore, the text now brings up the internal to liken it to the external, clarifying that the internal four great elements also can increase without relying on the external elements, and so should likewise lack prior nature. Demonstrating this through actual phenomena: "Just as the śirīṣa fruit originally has no physical form, but when the Pleiades (Kṛttikā) are seen, the fruit then appears and grows to a full five inches. Such a fruit does indeed not depend on the increase of the external four great elements"—it should likewise, like the external, lack prior self-nature.
