自下第二就三種語辨性分齊。於中，先辨三種之語，後約顯性。前中，初先舉昔所說，「云何」下釋。釋隨自中，先問、次辨、後總結之。辨中有二：一就比丘明隨意語、二就如來。前中六句：一諸比丘問舍利弗受身之因、二舍利反呵不為宣說、三比丘自說、四共詣佛所向佛說之、五舍利弗問佛是非、六如來普印。就佛明中，舍利初問，如來後辨，「如是」下結。釋隨他中，初問、次辨、後總結之。辨中，隨彼長者意解用以顯己，名隨他意。於中有三：一芭吒難佛；二如來將彼用以自解；三說罪怖之，彼聞惶恐悔過求救。初段可知。

From here below, second, it distinguishes the scope of the nature with reference to three kinds of speech. Therein, it first distinguishes the three kinds of speech, and afterwards reveals the nature with reference to them. In the former, it first cites what was spoken in the past; from "how so" onwards, it explains it. In explaining speech that conforms to one's own intention, it first asks, next distinguishes, and afterwards concludes it in general. In the distinction there are two parts: first, explaining speech conforming to intention with respect to the monks; second, with respect to the Tathāgata. In the former are six phrases: first, the monks asking Śāriputra about the causes of receiving a body; second, Śāriputra rebuking them in return and not explaining it for them; third, the monks explaining it themselves; fourth, going together to the Buddha's place and speaking of it to the Buddha; fifth, Śāriputra asking the Buddha about right and wrong; sixth, the Tathāgata validating it universally. In explaining it with respect to the Buddha, Śāriputra first asks and the Tathāgata afterwards distinguishes it; from "like this" onwards concludes it. In explaining [speech] conforming to others' intentions, it first asks, next distinguishes, and afterwards concludes it in general. In the distinction, conforming to that elder's understanding and using it to reveal oneself is called speech conforming to others' intentions. There are three parts: first, Bāṭha challenging the Buddha; second, the Tathāgata using that to explain himself; third, speaking of sin to terrify him, and upon hearing it, his becoming fearful, repenting of his transgression, and seeking deliverance. The first section can be understood.
