In the second section, there are four distinct phrases: first, the Tathāgata's counter-determination: "Is a person who knows illusions called an illusionist?" and he answers, "Yes." Second, the Tathāgata's counter-question: "Do you know a caṇḍāla?" and he answers that he does. Third, the Tathāgata's counter-inquiry: "You know a caṇḍāla; are you a caṇḍāla?" and he answers, "No." Fourth, the Tathāgata likens himself to that, clarifying that he knows illusions yet is not an illusionist. In the third section, there are four distinct phrases: first, the Tathāgata speaks of sin to terrify him; upon hearing that he has committed a sin, he seeks to offer wealth. Why is this? King Prasenajit had previously issued an established decree: anyone who offends the Buddha is fined and their wealth enters the government treasury. Upon hearing that he has incurred a sin, he thought he had incurred this liability, and so sought to offer wealth. Second, the Tathāgata clarifies for him that the sin is not the loss of wealth, but falling into the three wretched realms. Hearing this, he is terrified and begs the Buddha for salvation and relief. Third, the Buddha preaches the Dharma for him; upon hearing it, he attains the fruit, repents with thanks, and takes refuge. Fourth, the Tathāgata praises him.
