自下第五明修所為，論定論慧，略不明捨。修定為三：一為不放逸，厭伏煩惱；二莊嚴大智，依之發慧；三為得自在，依之起通。修慧為三：一觀生死為知苦過；二增諸善，為息惡業；三為破煩惱。

From here, the fifth clarifies the purpose of cultivation; it discusses concentration and wisdom, but briefly does not clarify equanimity. Cultivating concentration has three [purposes]: first, for non-negligence, suppressing afflictions; second, to adorn great wisdom, giving rise to wisdom based upon it; third, to attain sovereignty, initiating supernormal powers based upon it. Cultivating wisdom has three [purposes]: first, contemplating cyclic existence to know the faults of suffering; second, increasing all wholesome [qualities] to put an end to unwholesome karma; third, to destroy afflictions.
