Regarding the benefit of proceeding toward the fruit, first is heading toward bodhi; from "the tempest of the four inversions..." downward explains heading toward nirvāṇa. In heading toward bodhi, first is leaving the conditioned; from "not long until attaining..." downward is proceeding toward the unconditioned; from "in order to accomplish..." downward is the ability to benefit sentient beings. In leaving the conditioned, first, cultivating the two dharmas can regulate the five faculties; from "able to endure..." downward is not following conditions of delusion; from "always able to stay far from..." downward is internally calming evil thoughts. In not following conditions, first, enduring contrary conditions without producing anger; from "not for the sake of profit..." downward is enduring agreeable conditions without producing greedy attachment; from "not for the sake of heterodoxy..." downward is recognizing and penetrating false dharmas without giving rise to foolish views. Alternatively, it can be explained as: first, clarifying that cultivating the two regulates the faculties; from "able to endure..." downward is not following conditions of delusion. Within this are six phrases: first, externally enduring contrary conditions; second, from "always restraining..." downward, internally leaving anger and affliction—these two form one pair. Third, from "not for the sake of profit..." downward, externally leaving agreeable conditions; fourth, from "adventitious defilements..." downward, internally removing greedy attachment—these two form one pair. Fifth, from "not for the sake of heterodoxy..." downward, externally staying far from false dharmas; sixth, from "always able to..." downward, internally relinquishing evil thoughts—these two form one pair. The rest can all be understood.
