Regarding transformation by the wise person, Lion [Roar] first asks, and the Buddha's answer has three parts: First, they are transformed because they cultivate, fully cultivating the aforementioned body, precepts, mind, and wisdom. Second, from "If this person" onward, they are transformed because they have resolution (the mind). This is because they know the great power of wholesome [roots] and are able to practice them; first the doctrine is stated to explain that the power of wholesome [roots] is great, and then from "like a cotton blossom" onward, four analogies are presented, followed by their application, as can be understood. Third, from "Thinking thus, they draw close" onward, they are transformed because they possess wholesomeness. Within this there are six things: 1. drawing close to good persons; 2. cultivating right view; 3. reading and reciting the sūtra teachings; 4. seeing [others] receive offerings; 5. making offerings to and serving the Three Jewels; and 6. having faith that the vaipulya Tathāgata is eternal and imperishable, and that sentient beings possess the nature. From "This person is able to" onward, it concludes that they are able to transform [karma]. This concludes the third section.
