下就菩提釋去前難。難有總別，先釋總難，「如汝所言世有病」下解其別難。總中有三：一直立道理，要修聖道方得菩提；二「汝言」下牒問讚嘆；三「若言」下牒問呵責。良以問者說由佛性定得菩提，當其正因生果之義，故牒讚嘆。言不須修，違其緣因得果之義，故牒呵責。初段可知。

Below, it resolves the earlier objection regarding bodhi. The objection has general and specific parts; it first resolves the general objection, and from "As you have said, there are sick persons in the world..." onward, it explains the specific objection. Within the general part there are three: 1. directly establishing the principle that one must cultivate the noble path in order to attain bodhi; 2. from "You said..." onward, quoting the question and praising it; 3. from "If you say..." onward, quoting the question and rebuking it. This is because the questioner said that by virtue of the buddha-nature one definitely attains bodhi, which corresponds to the meaning of the primary cause producing the fruit, and hence it is quoted with praise; but the assertion that one does not need to cultivate contradicts the meaning of the conditional cause attaining the fruit, and hence it is quoted with rebuke. The first section can be understood.
