5.31

In the text, it first clarifies the essence of the practice; below, it praises the excellence of the sūtra to cause people to train and learn it. In the former part, it first clarifies that which is cultivated in the causal part; from 'attaining the patient ground' downward is that which is accomplished in the fruition part. In cultivating the causal part, it first clarifies the expedient means of the four applications of mindfulness; from 'when making this contemplation, one attains the four applications of mindfulness' downward clarifies the completion of the four applications of mindfulness.
