The six below teach the cultivation of the bodhisattva mind. First, [acting] first for the sake of others teaches the cultivation of a broad mind, also called teaching the cultivation of a mind mindful of sentient beings. "You should act for the sake of the Great Vehicle, not for the sake of the two vehicles" teaches the cultivation of a great mind, also called teaching the cultivation of the mind that seeks the Buddha's wisdom. The last four clauses teach the cultivation of a profound mind, also called teaching the cultivation of a mind free from the conditioned. Among these, the first two teach the abandonment of the mind of views: "Toward all dharmas you should have no abiding" is not abiding in non-existence; "also do not exclusively grasp at the characteristics of all dharmas" is not grasping at existence. "Do not be greedy toward dharmas" teaches the abandonment of a mind of attachment. "Always give rise to the mind that knows dharmas and sees dharmas" teaches the abandonment of a mind of delusion. "If you are capable of being like this, it is called hearing the unheard" brings together the conclusion and displays the benefit.
