First, discriminating the mark of light: 'At that time, in the great assembly' clarifies the place where the light was manifested. 'In an instant' clarifies the time the light was manifested. 'There was a great radiant light' directly clarifies the manifestation of the light. From 'not blue' downward shows the mark of this light. Vaiḍūrya Bodhisattva, from within the body of equal, real realization, emitted the light of the Āgamas to make people behold it; therefore, the great assembly saw blue where there was no blue, and up to being able to see where there was no seeing. 'When the great assembly encountered the light, their bodies and minds were joyful' clarifies the benefit of the light, first in terms of the Dharma, and then by analogy. Question: Why did Boundless emit light that made this assembly afraid, while Vaiḍūrya emitted light that made this assembly joyful? It is simply because what was appropriate for transformation differed. How did it differ? Boundless was about to come to symbolize the noble extinction, desiring to make this assembly aware of the worldly unrest; hence he made the assembly afraid. Now the light emitted by this Vaiḍūrya was for the purpose of revealing the Dharma to make the assembly realize and enter it; supreme benefit was about to arrive, so he made the assembly joyful.
