1.18

一時者，一時奉聲光召請，一時集娑羅林，一時顯如來密藏，一時聞涅槃常施，一時聞頂戴奉行，一時安祕密藏中入涅槃義。一時已聞常住二字，啟悟父母七世宗親及諸眾生冤親善惡，是為一時通序五章。

'At one time': At one time receiving the convocation of sound and light; at one time gathering at the śāla grove; at one time revealing the Tathāgata's secret treasury; at one time hearing the permanent giving of nirvāṇa; at one time hearing and upholding it with veneration; at one time abiding in the secret treasury and entering the meaning of nirvāṇa; at one time having heard the two characters 'permanent abiding', awakening parents, ancestors of seven generations, and all sentient beings, whether enemies, kin, good, or evil. This is how 'at one time' commonly prefaces all five chapters.
