From "Furthermore, like the pond of mosquitoes" onward, the fifth [section] illustrates the arising and disappearance of the great Dharma, again in two [parts]: first, the signs of disappearance; next, discerning both arising and disappearance together. In the first text, there is first the metaphor and next the application. In an evil age, evil people are numerous and those who propagate are few, just as a pond of mosquitoes cannot relieve a drought. Next, from "Passing the summer is called autumn" onward, it discerns both arising and disappearance together. Disappearing is like sinking into the earth; flourishing is like the autumn rain (and so forth).
