From “Śamatha” onward is the second part, explaining the names. First explaining the name of concentration: one version has tuó, and another has shě; these are variations of lighter and heavier Sanskrit phonetics, differing in translated names. One translation is cessation (zhǐ), ceasing evil conditions; or it is called concentration. Because this term has multiple glosses, the original phonetic rendering is retained and cannot be exclusively determined. Vipaśyanā is translated here as contemplation (guān), and also as seeing. Upekṣā is translated as the mark of equanimity (shěxiàng), and also as equality, non-contention, and so forth.
