他家不同，滅則語法，度則目人。法本有今無，人從此到彼。又云：實人實法皆滅，假名人法悉度也。又，滅者凡聖皆滅，度則簡異凡夫，凡夫滅已後生不得稱度，大聖一滅永不復生，故稱之曰度。

Other traditions differ: extinction pertains to dharmas, and crossing over designates persons. Dharmas originally existed and now do not; persons go from here to there. Moreover, it is said: real persons and real dharmas are both extinguished, and provisional persons and dharmas are all crossed over. Furthermore, as for extinction, both ordinary persons and noble ones are extinguished; crossing over distinguishes [them] from ordinary persons: when ordinary persons are extinguished, they are subsequently reborn and cannot be termed crossed over; when the great Sage is once extinguished, he is never reborn again, and therefore it is termed crossing over.
