The third master says: ultimate truth transcends, but nirvāṇa does not transcend—this is also not correct. If ultimate truth transcends and nirvāṇa does not transcend, then ultimate truth would be wondrous while nirvāṇa would not be wondrous, and ultimate truth would be empty while nirvāṇa would not be empty; if both kinds are empty, then both transcend. That [master] says ultimate truth is wondrous nonexistence and nirvāṇa is wondrous existence; although existence and nonexistence in these two kinds differ, both are wondrous. Since both are wondrous, both should transcend; if one transcends and one does not transcend, then one is wondrous and one is not wondrous.
