Therefore Master Zhao states: "As for the way of nirvāṇa, it is silent, vast, and empty, unattainable by shape or name; subtle and signless, unknowable by a deliberate mind. Those who speak of it violate its reality; those who claim to know it turn back to folly. Those who grasp it as existent run contrary to its nature; those who grasp it as nonexistent harm its embodiment. This is indeed the realm of the invisible and inaudible, the domain of the Great Mystery, yet people apply designations of existence and nonexistence to demarcate its bounds. To speak of spiritual penetrations in this regard—is that not far removed?" Such being the essence of nirvāṇa, how could one deduce it with an ordinary mind, saying either that it is within the two truths or outside the two truths?
