1.10

「『寧當殺身破眼目，不忍行殺食眾生。
諸佛所說慈悲經，彼經中說慈悲者，
寧破骨髓出頭腦，不忍噉肉食眾生。
如佛所說食肉者，此人行慈不滿足，
當受短命多病身。』

" 'I would rather destroy my body and shatter my eyes
Than bear to kill and eat sentient beings.
In the sūtras on loving-kindness and compassion spoken by all Buddhas,
What is taught therein regarding loving-kindness and compassion is:
I would rather break my bone marrow and have my head and brain put out
Than bear to consume flesh and eat sentient beings.
As the Buddha has spoken, those who eat meat
Have not perfected the practice of loving-kindness
And shall receive a short life and a body with many illnesses.' "
