問：何不別說成道竟後若干時節？答：雖隨化相亦可言之，然凡聖所見佛身報化、所說淺深、成道近遠各不同故，經擬凡聖同行，所以不得定說。

Question: Why does it not specifically state how much time had passed after the attainment of the Way? Answer: Although it could be spoken in accordance with the aspects of transformation, ordinary beings and noble ones see the Buddha's bodies—saṃbhogakāya or nirmāṇakāya—what is expounded as shallow or profound, and the attainment of the Way as recent or distant, each differently. Since the sūtra is intended for common practice by both ordinary beings and noble ones, a fixed time could not be stated.
