問：處中有淨穢，隨機定說處；時中凡聖殊，何容不定說？答：說處標穢淨，穢可定知；說時短長，凡聖不可准。一會機宜，有利有鈍、長時短時，如何准定？故處定說而時總言。

Question: Among places there are pure and defiled, yet the place is definitively stated according to the capacity; among times ordinary beings and noble ones differ, so how could it not be definitively stated? Answer: In stating the place, the defiled and pure are designated, and the defiled can be definitively known; as for the length of time of the expounding, ordinary beings and noble ones cannot be standardized. Within a single assembly, capacities include the sharp and the dull, long durations and short durations; how could they be standardized? Therefore, the place is definitively stated while the time is spoken generally.
