佛告優波離：汝今諦聽。是彌勒菩薩當為未來世一切眾生作大歸依處，若有歸依彌勒菩薩，成多陀阿伽度、阿羅訶、三藐三佛陀時，如此行人見佛光明，即得受記。
The Buddha said to Upāli: 'Listen attentively now! This Maitreya Bodhisattva will serve as a great refuge for all sentient beings in future ages. If anyone takes refuge in Maitreya Bodhisattva, when he becomes a tathāgata, arhat, samyaksaṃbuddha, such practitioners, seeing the Buddha's light, will immediately receive a prophecy.'
