The Buddha said to Upāli: 'After the Buddha's parinirvāṇa, if among the monks, nuns, laymen, laywomen, gods, nāgas, yakṣas, gandharvas, asuras, garuḍas, kiṃnaras, mahoragas, and others—if anyone among these great assemblies hears the name of the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Maitreya, and having heard it, is joyful, reverent, and bows down in worship, when this person's life ends, they will instantly obtain rebirth within the span of a finger-snap, no different from before.'
