From the sūtra's words 'At that time that king will have a great minister' onward, this is the second [section], explaining the excellence of the ministers. Here there are two parts: first, explaining the excellence of the minister, and second, explaining the excellence of his wife, which can be understood accordingly. Regarding Brahmāyu: here translated as 'Well-Purified'. Regarding Brahmavatī: here translated as 'Pure Mistress', so named because she is the king's mother. The Attainment of Buddhahood Sūtra says: 'The father is named Subrahma, and the mother is named Brahmavatī', which refers to them. Regarding the 'eighty-four forms of seductive behavior': these are the signs of flattery and deceit within a woman's mind. The Mahāvadāna Sūtra says: 'Women have eighty-four forms of seductive behavior'; this sūtra's reading of 'eight-four' is an error. The Sūtra on the Crown Prince's Five Dreams says: 'When the Bodhisattva was beneath the tree, the Demon King wished to test him and dispatched three celestial maidens. The three went to the Buddha, and the Buddha explained to them the eighty-four forms of human impurity and sickness, like a painted vase filled with dung. At that time, the women felt shame, and all transformed into old crones.'
