Question: According to other traditions, when a bodhisattva is born, the sound reaches only up to the Paranirmitavaśavartin heaven of the desire realm; when he attains the Buddha-way, the sound reaches the Akaniṣṭha heaven of the form realm; and when he turns the wheel of the Dharma, the sound reaches the Brahmā heavens. Why does this sūtra only say that at the attainment of awakening the sound reached the Brahmā heavens? Answer: Their intended meaning is that when a bodhisattva is born, he assumes a body of the desire realm, so it reaches only up to the sixth heaven. When he attains awakening, he becomes the lord of the three realms, so it passes directly to Akaniṣṭha. When he turns the wheel of the Dharma, it is due to the request of Mahābrahmā, so it reaches the realm of Brahmā. However, the intent of this sūtra is that above the second dhyāna there is no vocal sound of their own stage; therefore, conforming [to this principle], it merely states that it reached the realm of Brahmā.
