問：何故阿難不越次取證者？答：慶喜是到彼岸性，助佛宣說一切法若相若性真實義故，名奉法人。既作佛事、教眾生故，不順世間不可樂想。以是義故，到彼岸人一切皆得四沙門果。

Question: Why did Ānanda not attain realization by leaping stages? Answer: Ānanda is of the nature of having crossed over to the other shore; because he assists the Buddha in proclaiming the true meaning of all phenomena, whether their characteristics or their nature, he is called a person who upholds the Dharma. Since he performs the Buddha's work and teaches sentient beings, he does not follow worldly perceptions of unpleasantness. For this reason, persons who have reached the other shore all attain the four fruits of the śramaṇa.
