問：何故餘經多說賢劫千佛，而《悲華經》說千五佛？答：有說見機不同。有說餘經曰千佛者就大數，如妙高山量。今云理實賢劫有千五佛。而前三經談發心同時、次第成佛故，唯千佛耳，謂《金剛力士經》千子各發心故。

Question: Why do most other sūtras speak of one thousand Buddhas in the Bhadrakalpa, whereas the Karuṇāpuṇḍarīkasūtra speaks of one thousand and five Buddhas? Answer: Some say that their witnessing of faculties differs. Some say that other sūtras speaking of one thousand Buddhas refer to the round number, like the measurement of Mount Sumeru. Now it is said: in actual principle, the Bhadrakalpa has one thousand and five Buddhas. But because the preceding three sūtras discuss generating the mind at the same time and attaining Buddhahood sequentially, they mention only one thousand Buddhas; that is, because in the Jingang lishi jing the one thousand sons each generated the mind.
