第二辨眾多小。亦有三對：一聲聞菩薩對，謂聲聞多，以有七千故；菩薩小，以有五百十六人故。二在家出家對，謂聲聞眾中出家少，以有二千故；在家多，有五千故。菩薩眾中在家小，有十六人故；出家多，以五百故。三信男信女對，謂信男多，以四千五百六人故；信女小，以三千人故。

Second is distinguishing the size of the assemblies. There are also three pairs: First, the contrast between śrāvakas and bodhisattvas: the śrāvakas were many, as there were seven thousand; the bodhisattvas were few, as there were five hundred and sixteen people. Second, the contrast between lay and monastic: among the śrāvaka assembly, the monastics were few, as there were two thousand; the laity were many, as there were five thousand. Among the bodhisattva assembly, the laity were few, as there were sixteen people; the monastics were many, as there were five hundred. Third, the contrast between laymen and laywomen: the laymen were many, being four thousand five hundred and [sixteen] people; the laywomen were few, being three thousand people.
