From the sūtra's statement, 'At that time the World-Honoured One put forth his broad [and long tongue]...' onward is the second part: expounding the Dharma and obtaining benefits. Within this, there are three sections: first, manifesting signs; second, expounding the Dharma; third, obtaining benefits. This is the first. 'World-Honoured One' refers to Śākyamuni Tathāgata. Putting forth his tongue signifies that in bestowing the prophecy (vyākaraṇa) upon Maitreya and delivering all beings with affinities, he does not speak falsely. Emitting a thousand rays of light signifies that in each of the lesser thousand worlds there is an emanated Buddha dispelling the darkness of sentient beings. Each having a thousand colours signifies that in each of the medium thousand worlds there are a thousand Buddhas. Having immeasurable Buddhas signifies that when the future arrives in the great trichiliocosm, there will be ten billion Maitreyas born at the same time.
