1.14

肇曰：如是信順辭。夫信則所言之理順，順則師資之道成。經無豐約，非信不傳，故建言如是。

[Seng]zhao says: 'Thus' is an expression of faith and compliance. If there is faith, the principle spoken of will be complied with; if complied with, the way of master and disciple will be accomplished. Whether a sūtra is extensive or brief, without faith it cannot be transmitted; therefore, 'Thus' is set forth at the outset.
