如是　此初信經辭也。肇曰。如是信順辭也。夫信則所言之理順。順則師資之道成經無豐約。非信不傳故建言。

'Thus' — This is the first: words of faith in the scripture. Sengzhao said: '"Thus" is an expression of faithful compliance. When there is faith, the principle of the spoken words is complied with; when there is compliance, the way of teacher and disciple is completed. Whether a scripture is extensive or concise, without faith it cannot be transmitted; hence it is stated at the beginning.'
