什曰：上以身力供養，今以心口供養。上以財養，今以法養。復次眾雖見其變，未知變之所由，欲令推宗有在、信樂彌深，故以偈讚也。肇曰：形敬不足以寫心，故復讚之詠之者矣。

[Kumāra]jīva says: Previously he made offerings with physical effort; now he makes offerings with mind and mouth. Previously he supported him with wealth; now he supports him with the Dharma. Furthermore, although the assembly saw the transformation, they did not know its cause; wishing to make them recognise where the ultimate principle rests so that their faith and joy would become ever deeper, he therefore praised him in verse.
[Seng]zhao says: Bodily respect was insufficient to express his mind, hence he further praised and chanted it.
