長者子寶積。即於佛前以偈頌曰　此下三明問經者。稱揚佛德使物歸信為啟問之由。肇曰。形敬不足。以寫心故復讚之詠之。三十六行偈。述歎文四。初歎大乘勝應。二歎小乘劣應。三歎現瑞表發。四歎佛三密功德。前文又三。初兩行總歎內德。二兩行明神通。三五行歎說法。此初也。

"The elder's son Ratnarāśi then spoke in verse before the Buddha, saying:" From here down is the third section: the interlocutor of the sūtra praises the Buddha's virtues to cause beings to turn to faith, using this as the occasion to open the inquiry. Sengzhao says: "Physical reverence being insufficient to fully express his mind, he further praised and chanted it in verse." The thirty-six stanzas of praise have four divisions in the text: first, praising the superior response body of the Mahāyāna; second, praising the inferior response body of the Hīnayāna; third, praising the manifestation of auspicious signs that inspires awakening; fourth, praising the Buddha's merits of the three mysteries. The first division also has three parts: first, two stanzas broadly praising internal virtues; second, two stanzas explaining spiritual powers; third, five stanzas praising the expounding of the Dharma. This is the first.
