肇曰：六識識六塵而已，不能分別是非，分別是非其唯正智乎？是以行者依智不依識也。生曰：若識以著為情，智以達理為用，終不復從識乖智也。

[Seng]zhao says: The six consciousnesses merely cognize the six sense objects; they cannot distinguish right from wrong. As for distinguishing right from wrong, is it not the sole province of correct wisdom? Therefore the practitioner relies on wisdom, not on consciousness. [Dao]sheng says: Consciousness operates through grasping as its disposition, while wisdom functions by penetrating the principle; in the end one never follows consciousness in contravention of wisdom.
