[Seng]zhao says: 'Profound sūtras' refers to the sūtras of the vaipulya ultimate truth. Their purport is profound and mysterious, not to be attained by a mind that harbors existence; subtle and wondrous without form, not to be viewed by ordinary luminaries; transcending the dusty realms, untainted like empty space. To wish to believe, accept, and see them with a conceptual mind and worldly clarity—is that not difficult? From here onward, the purport of the profound sūtras is praised. The profound sūtras spoken by all buddhas are the very dharmakāya of the buddhas. Material nourishment nourishes the four great elements; the nourishment of Dharma nourishes the dharmakāya. If one can protect and uphold this sūtra, causing the dharmakāya to expand and increase, this is the supreme form of offering. [Dao]sheng says: There is no mark to grasp, hence defilement cannot arise. If one can see it, defilements are also eliminated.
