"The Buddha said: 'Good man, the offering of Dharma refers to the profound sūtras spoken by the Buddhas, which all the world finds difficult to believe and difficult to accept, wondrous and difficult to see, pure and undefiled, not to be reached merely by conceptual discrimination and deliberation.'" / Below, the sixth [part] answers regarding the offering of Dharma, in two parts: first, clarifying the essence of the Dharma; second, clarifying the offering. In the Dharma, there are five points: first, the Dharma of principle; second, the Dharma of teaching; third, the superiority of practice; fourth, the superiority of the fruit; fifth, a general conclusion. This first [point] clarifies the Dharma of principle, which is the true mark. / Sengzhao says: "'Profound sūtras' refers to the ultimate truth of the Vaipulya teachings. Their purport is deep and mysterious, unattainable by a discursive mind. Subtle and free of conditions, it cannot be perceived by ordinary sight. Transcending the defilement of worldly objects, it is undefiled like empty space. If one wishes to believe and accept it with an ordinary mind and ordinary perception, is that not difficult?" Another explanation: "The profound principle of the true mark is difficult to believe and difficult to see; because its nature is pure and undefiled, it can only be realized through wisdom and cannot be attained by conceptual discrimination and deliberation." Yet another explanation: "Because sentiment opposes principle, it is difficult to believe; because ordinary practice opposes principle, it is difficult to accept; because delusion opposes principle, it is difficult to see."
