生曰：夫人才有長短，所能不同。舍利弗自可不能，餘何必然？故不抑之而不告也。復得因以廣維摩詰之美也。

[Dao]sheng says: Human abilities have strengths and weaknesses; their capacities differ. Śāriputra himself may be unable, but why must the others be so? Thus he did not hold back from commanding him. Furthermore, he was thereby able to broaden Vimalakīrti's excellence.
