佛告大目犍連。汝行詣維摩詰問疾　文二。此初命也。目連此云採菽性也。輔相之族。字拘律陀。此樹名也。禱樹求之因以名也。肇曰。弟子中神通第一。生曰。夫人才有長短所能不同。舍利弗自可不能。餘何必然。故不抑之而不告也。復得因以廣維摩詰之美。

"The Buddha told Mahāmaudgalyāyana, 'Go to Vimalakīrti to inquire after his illness.'" The text has two parts. This is the first: the order. Maudgalyāyana here means 'gathering beans' and is a family name of ministers. His personal name was Kolita, which is the name of a tree; having prayed to the tree to obtain him, he was named after it. [Seng]zhao said: "Among the disciples, he is foremost in supernatural powers." [Dao]sheng said: "People's abilities have strengths and weaknesses, and what they are capable of differs. Śāriputra himself may have been unable; why must the others necessarily be so? Therefore, the Buddha does not hold back from telling him. Moreover, he could thereby broaden Vimalakīrti's excellence."
