肇曰：若能知法如此，乃名善解，奉法律耳。不知此法而稱持律第一者，何耶？令知優波離謬教意也。生曰：善解律為理也。

[Seng]zhao says: "Only if one can know dharmas in this way is one called one who understands well and upholds the Dharma and Vinaya. If one does not know this dharma and yet is proclaimed foremost in upholding the Vinaya, what is the meaning of that? He causes him to realize the mistaken intention in Upāli's instruction." [Dao]sheng says: "One who understands well takes the Vinaya to be principle."
