肇曰：天竺大施會法，於父舍開四門，立高幢告天下，諸有所須皆詣其舍，於七日中傾家而施，以求梵福。時淨名以其俗施既滿，將進以法施，故先譏其所設，以明為施之殊也。生曰：非謂大也。

[Seng]zhao says: According to the Indian rule for a great assembly of giving, one opens four gates at one's father's house and erects a tall banner announcing to the world that all who have needs should go to his house; for seven days he empties his household to give, seeking the blessing of Brahmā. At that time, the Pure Name, seeing that his mundane giving was complete and intending to advance him with the giving of Dharma, first criticized what he had arranged in order to clarify the distinction in giving. [Dao]sheng says: This was not what could be called great.
