7.86

什曰：謂為眾生無鞅數劫以煩惱受身深入生死，廣積善本、兼濟眾生，然後得成佛道。所以為種也。

[Kumāra]jīva says: This means that for the sake of sentient beings, through countless kalpas, by means of afflictions taking birth and entering deeply into saṃsāra, widely accumulating wholesome roots and universally aiding sentient beings, one only then succeeds in accomplishing the Buddha Way. Therefore they are called the seeds.
