[Kumāra]jīva says: "There is nothing equal to the wisdom of the buddhas, yet this [one] Buddha equals it. Furthermore, the dharma of the true mark has no equal or counterpart, and only a buddha is equal to it. Bodhisattvas are adjacent to it but have not yet attained it, hence it is said that they 'approach' [it]."
[Seng]zhao says: "The Buddha's Way is transcendent and has nothing equal to it; only buddhas equal each other, hence it is termed 'unequalled.' The reason its equality is expounded is to clarify that the principle of the supreme, great Truth leaves nothing unexhausted and is level like empty space; how could it be surpassed from without? The 'masterful wisdom' refers precisely to the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, and the eighteen unshared dharmas. Although the mahāsattvas do not yet fully possess the Buddha's wisdom, they have already approached it."
