[Seng]zhao says: An attendant in the worldly sense means merely one who respects oneself, obeys orders, and serves what is needed. For a bodhisattva, an attendant means taking those who disdain oneself, disobey orders, and disobey the Way, identifying with their great contrariness, harmonizing with them in hidden accord, and attending to and nurturing the dharmakāya; this is what is called an attendant. This is why the host of māras and adherents of heterodox teachings are the foremost attendants.
