[Seng]zhao says: Despising saṃsāra and exalting one's own path refers to people of excessive pride; for such people, he spoke of departing from the fetters as liberation. If one does not despise saṃsāra and does not exalt one's own path, he teaches that the very nature of the three poisons and all fetters is liberation, and that there is no separate liberation. Although the two vehicles do not have the pride of fetters, yet despising saṃsāra and exalting nirvāṇa still constitutes a semblance of the fetter of pride. 'Pride' means not having attained the path, yet saying one has attained it, thereby generating pride. [Dao]sheng says: For those who cherish non-grasping, they no longer wait for verification before awakening.
