When Mahākāśyapa spoke these words, thirty-two thousand devaputras all generated the mind of anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi. At that time Vimalakīrti said to Mahākāśyapa: 'Virtuous one! Those who act as Māra kings in the boundless asaṃkhyeya worlds of the ten directions are mostly bodhisattvas abiding in inconceivable liberation, who manifest as Māra kings using the power of upāya to teach and transform sentient beings.'
