[Kumāra]jīva says: One who is spotless yet bathes does so to remove heat and enjoy comfort. A bodhisattva who has no fetters yet enters the eight liberations externally acts for sentient beings, and internally delights their own mind.
[Seng]zhao says: Dhāraṇī and strong mindfulness are the garden of the myriad virtues. In this garden, a forest of the unoutpoured is planted, flowers of the seven factors of awakening unfold, fruits of liberation form, and a pool of the eight liberations is adorned; the accumulated water of dhyāna-samādhi is calm and filled to the brim, and the flowers of the seven purifications are spread out upon the water. Thereafter, the spotless persons roam through this forest and garden, bathe in this flowered pool, resting and playing at ease, rejoicing to the utmost. How could this be equaled by the pleasures of worldly gardens, groves, and waters? Awakening thoughts are the seven factors of awakening. Liberation refers to the fruits of the conditioned and unconditioned. Wisdom is the wisdom of fruition.
[Dao]sheng says: Bathing in this, there are no longer any defilements.
