9.23

Thereupon Śāriputra said to Ānanda: "From our pores, too, this fragrance issues." Ānanda said: "From where did this come?" He replied: "This Elder Vimalakīrti fetched the leftover rice from the Buddha of the land of Sarvagandhasugandha to his house. All who ate it have pores that are fragrant like this." Ānanda asked Vimalakīrti: "For how long will this scent abide?" Vimalakīrti said: "Until this rice is digested." He asked: "After how long will this rice be digested?" He replied: "The efficacy of this rice lasts up to seven days, and only then is it digested."
