「城中一」下是第四段明法施益。「城中下乞」，舉得益人。「見是神力聞其所說」，得益所由。見前維摩所施瓔珞，難勝佛上變成寶臺，名見神力。聞前施下等於如來，不求果報，名聞所說。「皆發阿耨三菩提心」，正明得益。一人發心，云何言皆？此發同前，是故言皆。亦可見聞兩時俱發，是以言皆。前辭、次釋，「故我」下結。

From "In the city, a..." downward is the fourth section, explaining the benefits of Dharma-giving. "The lowest beggar in the city" points out the person who received the benefit. "Seeing this spiritual power and hearing what he said" is that from which the benefit was attained. Seeing the necklace previously given by Vimalakīrti turn into a jeweled tower above Duṣpradharṣa Buddha is called seeing the spiritual power. Hearing the previous [teaching] that giving to the lowly is equal to the Tathāgata and seeks no karmic retribution is called hearing what was said. "All generated the thought of anuttarā samyaksaṃbodhi" directly explains the attainment of benefit. When it was one person who generated the thought, why does it say "all"? This generation of the thought was the same as before; therefore it says "all". Alternatively, both at the time of seeing and at the time of hearing [people] generated the thought, hence it says "all". First the decline, next the explanation; from "Therefore I..." downward is the conclusion.
