告前四人，阿難別列。「如是諸菩薩各各向」下，告餘菩薩，阿難總舉。具列難盡，故通舉之。文中直言如是諸菩薩，不知幾許。或容是前列三萬二千菩薩，或可是後向維摩舍八千菩薩。以彼德高，皆言不堪。

As for addressing the previous four persons, Ānanda listed them individually. From "All such bodhisattvas, each facing..." downward, addressing the remaining bodhisattvas, Ānanda brings them up collectively. Since listing them completely is difficult to exhaust, he therefore brings them up comprehensively. The text straightforwardly says "all such bodhisattvas," not specifying how many. Perhaps it allows for the thirty-two thousand bodhisattvas listed earlier, or perhaps it may be the eight thousand bodhisattvas who later go to Vimalakīrti's house. Because of his lofty virtue, they all said they were not equal [to the task].
